Welcome Baby Beckett!

Adjusting to life 2:31 am

He's finally here!  After 14 hours of labor Beckett Ryan Foye entered the world at 2:31 am on July 26th, 2010.  He weighed 8 Lbs 8 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long.
We first went to the hospital at 8 am on Sunday thinking Courtney's water broke. Even though contractions were every 3-4 minutes, they sent us home to labor on our own since things were progressing slowly.  We checked back in around 3:30 pm with very strong, regular contractions. Since we weren't planning on an epidural, we got to walk around the hospital (with minimal progress made), labor in the tub for 2 hours (again, minimal progress) and finally had to get the pitocin started. The midwife finally broke the water to lead to 2 more hours of minimal progress. Had we been laboring with the doctors from the group, we would have been in a C-section. Beckett's head was still pretty high up, and Courtney was officially termed a "disfunctional labor." Aaron finally suggested a position from the Bradley method... this was the key! After about 6 hours to go 2 centimeters, this new position got from 7 - 10cm in two hours! Then we pushed for about 2 hours and voila! Welcome baby Beckett! While we have no other experience to compare to, we fell this was the way to go.  We found it to be great bonding for us, as we were able to work together to bring this beautiful life into the world.
Courtney and Beckett have been doing very well.  From the start, Courtney has found this to be a much better recovery than what she had heard of experiences from friends and family.  And Beckett has been nothing short of a total stud.
The timing of our delivery was beyond perfect! Courtney's dad was able to come in town last minute, but we weren't sure if he was going to be here for the delivery. His flight left about 8 hours after Beckett was born. And Beckett was born 6 hours before we were scheduled to be induced! So everything really was perfect. We even got to spend a few days with "Dazzle and Grammy" (Hamilton grandparents) before Beckett joined us. About 36 hours before delivery we were at the Blue Angels air show in HOT Idaho weather for 5 hours which included a 2 mile walk back to the car!

D-day approaching!

So, we were told last week that our baby is measuring about 3 weeks ahead... So they scheduled us for an ultrasound.
We had our ultrasound this week and determined baby is 2-3 weeks ahead on growth and they will induce by the 26th if he doesn't come on his own by then.
He weighed in at 7 lbs 11 oz, give or take 7 ounces. I know that's not super accurate, but on average a baby at this point is 6-6.5 lbs
His head measured at about 39 weeks, which was 3 weeks ahead, too.
This can partially be attributed to the varying due dates that we have as well. But we're hoping he comes on his own before then, and if not, we know we get to meet him here in about 2 weeks!

Getting ready for baby!

So, we have been setting up the nursery and getting ready for baby boy to make his debut. Yea, we know we still have a way to go, but we're having fun!

We got our crib yesterday (Thanks Foyes!) and got it all set up. We're still waiting on a crib skirt. It will be made out of the same fabric that we are recovering the chair in.

How soft and wonderful does this look? I'm jealous!

Super cute blanky for the baby, thanks Pomai! I don't think we can say we haven't named our unborn child anymore. It's getting pretty official :)

Here is our bookshelf/dresser/soon-to-be desk and changing table. We're getting the desk that attached to this bookshelf next weekend at Ikea and will be using at as a "changing table" and a desk.

Our freaking sweet Phil&Ted's stroller (Thanks Hamiltons!). Don't worry, you don't have to have the second seat attached. It looks like a normal one kid stroller without it. We got a great grey car seat to go with it!

My wonderful Mother's day gift from Aaron, a Vera Bradley diaper bag!

The wardrobe!

Our Poang chair that will be recovered in this fabric (Thanks to Gma Savoldi) and we're trying to figure out how/where to put these patches on it. Gotta love the army surplus store!

The big news...

So there are 2 wonderful bits of news in our ultrasound video. First off, we found out we're either growing a giant or we're having a baby in July. A week earlier than what they told us before, which is about what we thought. Aaron had that part of the video well done, and then I messed it up. So that's what the very first bubble says.
And then there's another surprise at the end...
We tried to make it kind of fun to watch. We know other people's ultrasounds can be kind of boring.
ENJOY! :)

Custom Video Ultrasound

We made a custom video of our ultrasound. We edited down from 25 minutes to just over 3, so people would actually watch it.
SO WATCH IT!!!

All of the sudden...

As many of you know, I have put on some extra pounds this past year... but this recent bulge in my abdomen I SWEAR happened over night.
I stood in front of the mirror staring at my belly for at least 5 minutes before I came out and showed Aaron. So we decided it was finally time to take a baby bump picture!

Aaron's new toy

This is Aaron's favorite mode of transportation. Yes, he rides it as long as snow is not falling from the sky! Parking on campus is SO HORRIBLE that we always walk... or he can take the scooter and park right in front of his building.

Hmmm...

So, I'm obviously still trying to figure out the blog thing... Don't mind that the photo descriptions are nowhere close to the pictures they describe.
I don't know how to fix it yet, and I don't have the time to deal with it now.
So enjoy!

The first ultrasound!

Baby Foye

After 2 hours of a power outage across the ENTIRE city of Rexburg, we were called to come back to the doctors office for our appointment. You can't have an ultrasound without power! Once we got back to the doctors office, all seemed great! We saw the doctor pretty quickly, and he did the initial consult. He told us they had sent the ultrasound tech home during the power outage, so he would do the ultrasound. I had to go get changed into beautiful pink paper for my exam, and when the knock at the door came, it was a nurse practitioner telling me the doctor had to go deliver a baby and she would do my exam. Then they called the ultrasound tech back in and she did the ultrasound. All the craziness made the day even more exciting for us!

We learned today that we are not as far along as we thought. Our almost official due date is August 2nd, 2010. This will have to be confirmed at the next appointment by the doctor. But that's where baby Foye is measuring at. Just over 3 centimeters!

The first minute and a half of the ultrasound in still. The next 1-2 minutes is the best part. Baby waves at us, seriously! And it is totally moving around! Which was a surprise to us! The last minute or so is pretty boring... she's just checking my insides out.
